Mattie McMillan

Policy Analyst

Mattie (she /they) is a speaker, writer, and public policy practitioner who brings deep strategic experience to the table and results for members. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta through Treaty 7, Mattie began their career in policy & advocacy as a director & board secretary of the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations, later becoming the provincial constituency manager of Calgary-Cross before a pivot to supporting industrial & trade reforms and system overhauls in Alberta, the West, and across Canada. They have served in numerous civil society roles including the United Way’s Council of Champions, Alberta’s New Democrats Provincial Council, the Canadian Non-Binary Working Group, and poppy campaigns with the Royal Canadian Legion.

Mattie is a retired naval lieutenant, having served over a decade with the Canadian Armed Forces and the Cadet Instructor Cadre. They hold a Master of Science in Public Policy & Management from SOAS, University of London and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Calgary.
