PSAC STARS and Spurs “Safe@Home” Gala Raises $450,000

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CALGARY, AB (March 1, 2021) – The Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC) proudly held the first of three planned events for its 27th annual STARS & SPURS Gala Campaign, bringing total funds raised since its inception to more than $17 million for the Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS). This is the longest-running and largest fundraiser in Alberta. The Safe@Home event, held on February 27, 2021, raised a remarkable $450,000.

Dave McHattie, Chair of the PSAC STARS Gala Committee, Vice Chair of PSAC, and Vice President Institutional Relations for Tenaris Canada, said, “Even with the economic challenges the oil and gas industry is presently experiencing, we have again come together to generously contribute to the essential medical services STARS provides.  While the oil and gas services sector always operates as safely as possible, it appreciates that in case of an emergency, STARS is only a phone call away.  The significant funds raised show just how much.”

“We are proud of our PSAC members who have organized this year’s events themed Our Canadian Values, and of all of the members, employees, customers, and communities that are united in the national supply chain for this essential Canadian industry where the health and safety of all is one of our shared values,” said Elizabeth Aquin, Interim President and CEO of PSAC.  “We are also grateful to the many generous sponsors listed below.”

More than 1,200 guests tuned in to the PSAC STARS & SPURS Safe@Home Gala on Saturday, February 27.  With host Dave Kelly, attendees were treated to outstanding performances by Jess Moskaluke, The Washboard Union, Hunter Brothers, Nice Horse, Bobby Willis and award-winning artists George Canyon and Gord Bamford.

“We are so proud of this loyal and generous partnership with PSAC and its members and indeed grateful to the entire community,” said Andrea Robertson, president and CEO of STARS. “To see you rise above the challenges of the past year and still find a way to support the patients who need STARS is astounding. There is no greater proof that the Canadian philanthropic spirit is alive and well than you contributing to the care of our most vulnerable patients. Thank you for riding along with us on every mission.”

Gala guests virtually toasted 2021 Honourary Patron Brad Wall, former Premier of Saskatchewan, who was recognized for his outstanding efforts in bringing the vital service of STARS to the Province of Saskatchewan and his ongoing promotion of Canadian energy including its service, supply and manufacturing sector.  Watch the full interview with Brad Wall here.

In addition to representatives from the energy sector, the event featured a number of STARS’ crew members, volunteers, and three Very Important Patients shared their stories to help remind us of the essential medical service provided by STARS.

McHattie added, “The amount raised on Saturday was 50% of our nearly $1 million donation objective with the campaign only one third of the way.  We are pleased that we still have the 50/50 and Live Industry Auction in May providing many more opportunities for supporters of our industry to get involved and donate to this essential service and to bring us to our final fundraising goal.”

Everyone can still watch the PSAC STARS & SPURS Safe@Home Gala at starsandspursgala.ca until May 31, 2021.  We also encourage everyone to take a moment to still use the hashtag #psacstarsandspurs. We are fortunate to have an anonymous donor that will donate $100 every time the hashtag is used (expires June 2021)!
