FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CALGARY, AB (March 31, 2022) – Today, the Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC) released the following statement in response to the recent verbal threats made against the Blueberry River First Nations Chief and community:
On March 21, 2022, Blueberry River First Nations (BRFN) Chief Judy Desjarlais and the BRFN community were the target of a hateful and threatening voice mail message. The Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC) condemns in the strongest manner any and all such threats of violence.
PSAC and its member companies enjoy a strong working relationship with our First Nations partners across Canada, and we were disgusted to learn of this hateful and cowardly act of verbal aggression.
Canadians are privileged to live in a country where free speech is a fundamental right, but expressions of violence and racism such as those directed to Chief Desjarlais and the BRFN community can never be condoned, and have no place in a free and democratic society.
PSAC joins with its members, our industry, and our country as a whole, in support of the Chief and BRFN community, and the condemnation of the perpetrator of this hateful threat.
