Reflecting on an Eventful Year: Enserva’s 2023-2024 Highlights

As the saying goes, “The only constant is change,” and at Enserva, we’ve certainly experienced another fast-paced and dynamic year.

The energy sector has faced numerous challenges, from shifts in government policies to increased regulatory pressures. While provincial governments have shown strong support for our industry, we continue to navigate the complexities posed by the federal government, which remains a significant challenge.

As we step into a new fiscal year on September 1st, it’s clear that our collective voice is more crucial than ever. Enserva’s voice needs to be heard by the government for the betterment of the sector and with Canadian energy positioned at the forefront of supply, innovation, and sustainability globally.

Enserva’s mission remains essential in today’s landscape, and with our members’ support, we continue to amplify the voices of energy services, supply, and manufacturing companies across the nation.

Key Highlights of the 2023-2024 Year

As we continue to follow our Strategic Directions for 2022-2025, we can share some of the significant milestones we’ve achieved this past year:

Pillar 1:  Providing Value to Our Members

  • Working Energy Portal:  Launched in February, this portal addresses our members’ labour challenges. It’s designed to be a one-stop shop for talent that is seeking industry information, training, and job opportunities and for employers, it offers a faster and more efficient way to find qualified candidates. With over 300 roles posted and 240 applicant profiles, its gaining traction, especially among Indigenous communities and students. We’re also building strong partnerships with post-secondary institutions and trade schools across Canada.
  • OnePath Portal: In June, we introduced this industry-led software solution in response to members’ concerns about sustainability reporting. OnePath, powered by GreenWorks, offers a unified approach to reporting, helping members stay ahead of ever-changing legal requirements and government legislation. As reporting frameworks evolve, this tool will help keep companies organized and compliant.
  • State of the Industry Report: Our comprehensive report, released in December, provided key forecasting information and received significant media attention. In June we offered a bonus ‘State of the Industry Report: Q1 Review’ to our members too, which highlighted industry activity for the first quarter of the calendar year.

Pillar 2:  Leading Industry Advocacy

  • Advocacy Efforts: We continue to build solid and constructive relationships with key government officials. Our advocacy efforts are being noticed at the federal level. When dealing with federal policymakers, we highlight our members’ employees, their innovations, and how integral they are to Canada and the global energy ecosystem.
  • Provincial Engagement: Throughout the year, Enserva regularly met with provincial government officials to continue building awareness and addressing many policy and regulatory concerns.
  • Safety & Industry Consultations:  We also collaborated closely with safety regulatory agencies to champion our members’ interests on various issues, including Electronic Logging Device (ELD) data diagnostic auditing, guidelines for explosive staging activities at the well site, and the inadequacies in Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT) and certification for Class 1 and 2 drivers. Additionally, we facilitated numerous industry consultations and legislative feedback sessions and secured two dedicated Workers Compensation Board resource specialists to handle member cases and concerns.

Pillar 3: Growing Our Voice

  • THINK Energy Campaign: Launched in early 2024, THINK Energy is a national awareness campaign that informs Canadians about the breadth of our energy sector, challenges stereotypes, and showcases the positive impact of energy on everyday lives. The campaign continues to grow and will carry on into the next year.
  • Global Representation: Enserva has maintained a strong presence at key industry events. Last year, we participated in the World Petroleum Congress, COP28 UN Climate Change Conference, Energy NL, and the Global Energy Show, ensuring we represented our members at the world level. No matter how difficult the conversation can be, we must be at these tables to raise the profile of our sector and its concerns.
  • Fundraising Success: Our annual fundraising gala, Enserva STARS & Spurs, celebrated its 30th anniversary with record-breaking success, raising $1.6 million for STARS. Our Enserva Golf Classic also made a significant impact this past year, bringing together 100+ golfers and numerous sponsors to raise funds and awareness for energy insecurity in remote and Indigenous communities.

We deeply value our members’ commitment to Enserva and are grateful to represent their voices with ours.
